Spend the weekend at Cinehill – 4th day at Petehovac

Eduard-Limonov

The working week is over, and with the weekend come new films and events at Petehovac.

If you’re up for some body and mind stretches, join our morning yoga sessions every morning at 10:00 at the Cinema on the Slope.

If you prefer to start your morning with a good movie, Kix is on at 10:30 at the White Cinema. One of the most fascinating documentaries of the year is a coming-of-age story of a rebellious and bright kid from the streets of Budapest, constrained by the social circumstances he tries to escape.

Fans of animated films can head over to the Circus Fellini, where the screening of Robot Dreams starts at 11:00. The award-winning Spanish director Pablo Berger’s animation debut is a touching story about the importance and fragility of friendship which the whole family will enjoy.

We continue the walks with members of the Croatian Mountaineering Society Petehovac. After yesterday’s introduction with alpinist equipment, the weekend is reserved for walks around Petehovac, along trails suitable for all ages! The walk starts at 11:00 a.m. at the Cinema on the Slope.

At 12:30, we hang out with birds of prey at the same location! Everything you wanted to know about them will be revealed to you by Vitold Košir – Ito, falconer and author of our festival award.

Two great films are on at the White Cinema at 13:00. Icelandic director Rúnar Rúnarsson’s When the Light Breaks follows a young art student, Una, who, must deal with the consequences of an unusual love triangle after a tragic accident. It screens alongside Spanish The Foreigner, the story of a young man, Marko, who gets caught up in an unexpected adventure during his holiday in Spain. The film stars our main program jury member Luka Peroš.

The film Bacurau arrives to us from Brazil, on the program at 13:30 at the Circus Fellini. Blending western, siege thriller and dystopian science fiction, the film conveys a critique of colonialism, racism and political corruption in Brazil. It premiered in Cannes in 2019, winning the Jury Prize.

Today’s program Read This! features Croatian novelist, screenwriter, short story writer and journalist Jurica Pavičić. Join him in conversation in the shade of the CineChill zone at 14:30.

One of the “local” large beasts of prey will appear on the big screen at 15:30 at Circus Fellini. The film The Missing Lynx follows the seven-year project run by several scientists, whose hard work and sacrifice prevented the extinction of the lynx in Croatia and Slovenia. The screening is followed by a conversation with doctors for large animals at 17:15 in the shaded corner of CineChill.

At 15:30 at the White Cinema, catch another film in the running for the Cinehill Propeller Award, the Brazilian feature Betânia. Premiering at the 74th Berlinale, the film won nominations for the Audience Award in the Panorama section and the GWFF Award for Best Debut Feature. It centres on the widow Betânia as she tries to start a new life and maintain her identity while facing environmental and socio-economic problems.

If you prefer to spend your afternoon in town, catch the movie Perfect Days at 16:30 at the Radnički dom community centre in Delnice. Wim Wenders’ latest film is a minute study shows of poetics and beauty of everyday life. It premiered at Cannes, earning Koji Yakusho the award for Best Actor, and the Ecumenical Jury award for the film. It was also nominated for the Palme d’Or and the Academy Award in the category of Best International Feature.

Running in competition for the Cinehill Propeller award is Kalak, screening is at 18:00 at the White Cinema. The impressive drama is based on Kim Leine’s autobiographical hit novel, and speaks to the struggle with the trauma of childhood sexual abuse. The screening of the film is followed by a conversation with director Isabella Eklöf.

The penultimate block in the program Cinehill Shorts is themed bitter & salty. We’ll watch five shorts portraying the conflicted feelings that go hand in hand with big life decisions.

The Magic Hour is the perfect time to start the evening, so join us at Vidikovac at 19:00 for a tasting of mountain brandies and wines. Redeem a free coupon for a glass at the festival ticket office. Holders of ticket packages and individual tickets have priority, after which entry is free until full capacity.

After a good glass of wine, it’s time for Serbian Epics by Polish director Pawel Pawlikowski. This initially controversial, but now cult film about the siege of Sarajevo will be shown at Circus Fellini at 20:00. We recommend seeing it together with the film Limonov: The Ballad, right after the gathering by the bonfire at the central festival square.

The fourth festival bonfire will be lit by Julien Temple and Michelle Cabral, the actress appearing in the Brazilian film Betânia, which we show as part of the main program. Join them at Krešo Golik Square at 20:35.

We close the day spent in front of the movie screens with two screenings at the Cinema on the Slope and the honorary Maverick Award, which this year goes to the legendary music documentarian, Julien Temple. At 21:00 we watch Limonov: The Ballad a biographical drama based on Emmanuel Carrère’s novel about Eduard Limonov, a controversial Russian political figure and writer. Don’t leave our cinema under the stars as the award-winning documentary Crock of Gold: A Few Rounds with Shane MacGowan starts at 23:30. The film features never-before-seen archival footage of the band and MacGowan’s family, as well as animations by legendary illustrator Ralph Steadman.

As for the music, we continue at Krešo Golik Square, where DJ Mario Kovač will guide us through all the musical decades of the 20th century with his legendary time-machine setlist. Entrance is free.
