Once Upon a Time in Motovun

For twenty-five years, our festival was held in the medieval town of Motovun. Under the name Motovun Film Festival, it became one of the most popular festivals in the region of Southeastern Europe, known for its informal and relaxed atmosphere, where filmmakers spend time in direct contact with the audience. That is why journalists often described it as the ‘Woodstock of film’ or Cinema Paradiso.

The festival is proud to have helped Motovun become a popular tourist destination, but our little haven has become too cramped to fit all those tourists, filmmakers and movies… It is time to find a new magical place for our big screens. 

Grateful as we are to Motovun for all the unforgettable days and nights, in 2023 we moved to the most beautiful mountain region. In the lush green forest, far from the hustle and bustle of cities, yet close to everything, we moved to Gorski Kotar.

We will stay true to all of our ideas about the festival without a red carpet, a festival with soul, a festival of free spirit.
