A new day on the movie mountain has dawned and it’s full of surprises.
We again start the morning with the relaxing yoga session at 10:00 a.m. at the Cinema on the Slope. Don’t forget that you can attend this morning activity every day until the end of the festival!
We continue in the summer vibe with a story about friendship, youth and maturation, awarded with the Un Certain Regard Aaward in Cannes. Watch the movie How to Have Sex directed by Molly Manning Walker at 10:30 at the White Cinema.
Today’s CDFG Campus presents films from the Academy of Dramatic Arts and the SAE Institute in Belgrade. Join them at 11:00 at Circus Fellini.
For the more adventurous, we’ve organised two exciting walks. At 11:00 a.m. at the Cinema on the Slope, members of the Croatian Mountaineering Society Petehovac will tell you how to prepare for the mountain, from equipment to old hunting stories. At 12:30 in the same place, join a walk with the beasts of prey of the region. During the educational walk, experts on large animals from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Zagreb will teach you how to recognize lynx, wolf and bear tracks, and what to do if you happen to meet these magnificent inhabitants of Gorski Kotar.
Every day we’ve prepared talks with the most interesting filmmakers and actors in the films we’re watching at the festival. At 12:00 noon at CineChill, main program selector Jurica Pavičić will talk with the famous Brazilian director Karim Aïnouz, whose film Motel Destino is showing in this year’s main program.
We continue with the animal theme at the White Cinema, where at 13:00 we’re showing the film whose main actor was awarded the Palme d’Or at Cannes. This is Laetitia Dosch’ Dog on Trial, screening alongside Hotel, a short film directed by Yeşim Ustaoğlu.
Screenings at Circus Fellini continue at 13:30 with the movie The Clown, the Brazilian contender for Academy Award nominations for Best International Feature.
In the shade of the CineChill zone, join us for the program Read This! at 14:30. Today we hang out in the shade and talk about new books with writer Ante Tomić.
The noir thriller about a dangerous love triangle, Motel Destino, by today’s of the most successful Brazilian directors, Karim Aïnouz, who is also a guest of the festival, is on at 15:30 at the White Cinema.
At the same time, Circus Fellini is showing National Class Category up to 785 ccm, a film described as a time capsule of Belgrade’s pop culture scene of the 1970s. After the screening, at 17:15, head over to the forest corner of CineChill for the Q&A with acting legend Bogdan Diklić.
The Boy and the Heron, a film by the famous Hayao Miyazaki, is screening in Delnice at 16:30 at the Radnički dom community centre. Critics have hailed it as the pinnacle of Miyazaki’s career, having also won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature.
A real circus show for all ages awaits you at 17:30 at the Circus Fellini, in which the role of the clown Palita Presepada is embodied by Michelle Cabral, the actress appearing in the Brazilian film Betânia also screening at the festival.
After the show, return to the screen at the White Cinema with the feature Faruk followed by a conversation with its director Aslı Özge. This screening will be preceded by a short film about the Midnight Sun Film Festival in Finland.
A new dose of Cinehill shorts awaits you at Circus Fellini at 18:30. Five international films tackle feelings of loneliness, isolation and diversity of paths taken in life.
Once again, join us at 19:00 at Vidikovac for the Magic Hour and tasting of the finest Gorski Kotar brandies and wine. To participate, redeem a free coupon for a glass at the festival ticket office. Holders of ticket bundles and individual tickets have priority, after which entry is free until full capacity.
At 20:00, the place to be is Circus Fellini, where director Danilo Šerbedžija will share an exclusive first look at the footage for the film Dražen, dedicated to our basketball great Dražen Petrović.
The evening program starts with Bogdan Diklić, the legendary Croatian actor and this year’s 50 Years Award laureate, lighting the third festival bonfire at 20:35 at Krešo Golik Square.
We watch the last movies of the day at the Cinema on the Slope. At 21:00 catch Janet Planet of director and playwright Annie Baker. Set in rural western Massachusetts in 1991, the film delves into themes of childhood, motherhood and self-discovery. The short My Flat, the first Croatian film awarded at Cannes, is a humorous story about moving, inspired by the novel The Diary of Little Perica. The 50 Years Award ceremony, organised in cooperation with the Croatian Film Authors and Producers Association, honouring actor Bogdan Diklić, will be held at 21:00 before the screenings.
We close the film evening with a black-humoured classic of Yugoslav cinematography, The Marathon Family at 23:30.
The Berlin DJ duo Pesto+Pasta is in charge of the musical part of the evening from 1:30 at Krešo Golik Square.
