This summer’s edition of former Motovun Film Festival unites with writers and books • Selection of last season’s most important films also on offer
Not only films – this year Cinehill will host several writers arriving with their latest books, as well as reading recommendations for books that have recently fascinated them. Cinehill’s new program, titled Read This, will thus offer a guide to the best new editions that appeared in our bookstores in the last year. Fittingly, this year’s motto is Festival of the Best of Everything, which Cinehill has adopted since moving from Motovun to Gorski Kotar, where it will be held for the second time, at the Petehovac resort in the mountains above Delnice, from 24 to 28 July.
The strongest ensemble of women writers will include Olja Savičević Ivančević, with her book Summers with Maria, alongside Monika Herceg, winner of the prestigious European Poet of Freedom award, as well as two male hitmakers with their latest books fresh from the printing press: Ante Tomić with the novel Nada/Hope, a Jurica Pavičić with Žigice/Matches. In addition to presenting their own new writings, they will all select two titles by other authors to recommend at the festival; editions that, according to their opinion, marked the season.
Since Cinehill is focused on nature, in addition to the most important books of the season, the new program will also showcase an essential reading list devoted to mountains: Stipe Božić will present his comprehensive monograph Planine/Mountains, and Milan Majerović Stilinović from the festival Brdo knjiga will present the unmissable titles for lovers of mountaineering and mountain peaks. Cinehill will set up a mini festival pop-up bookstore where visitors can stock up on their latest reading favourites.
‘It is our wish for Cinehill to be a festival of the best of everything, meaning that, in addition to the premiere film program, it will also showcase the most important cultural achievements of the season. That is why we’ll start and end the festival with performances by the most awarded musicians of the season, since IDEM and Let 3 have scooped up the most Rock&Off prizes and a solid number of Porin awards, and we will also present the books that marked the season. And of course, films’, says Igor Mirković, Director of the Cinehill festival.
In an effort to make this festival a recap of artistic highlights of the year, the programming team is also preparing a selection of the ten most important films of the past season. As we live in a time of overabundance, even exceptional films sometimes have a hard time reaching the audience and film lovers often miss some of the outstanding achievements. That’s why Cinehill will offer everyone a chance to revisit the best titles they may have missed. Films of the Year is a program in which Cinehill will offer its selection of the most original and independent films from across the globe.
In addition to an impressive offering of writers, the festival has already announced that the guests of honor at this year’s edition will be alpinist and prolific filmmaker Stipe Božić, with a selection of some of his best films, and acting laureate Bogdan Diklić, who will be honoured with the 50 Years Award.
Cinehill is held with the support of the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, the Tourist Boards of Kvarner and Gorski Kotar, the Croatian Audiovisual Centre, and in cooperation with the City of Delnice and the Municipality of Lokve.
