THE MIRROR
dir. Jafar Panahi
IR, 90′
A girl from Tehran, Mina, realises her mom isn’t coming to pick her up from school. She heads home alone, but doesn’t know the address. On the bus, she realises that she is going in the wrong direction. When the driver tries to help, Mina interrupts him and says she no longer wants to act, and fiction turns into a film about making the film. Crowned with the Golden Leopard at Locarno, famous Iranian director Jafar Panahi’s second feature is a meta-cinematic depiction of life in Iran in the late 1990s.
