A dystopian sci-fi elegy about a utopian society of superhumans that collapsed due to an astronomical event causing a loss of telepathy. Narrated by Tilda Swinton and blending music by Jóhann Jóhannsson with scenes of monumental Yugoslav monuments shot on 16mm, the film tells the story of a vanished society. Based on Olaf Stapledon’s eponymous novel, Last and First Men juxtaposes the collapse of a utopian civilization and the crumbling of the Yugoslav dream.
