Take advantage of this lazy rainy Sunday to catch the winners of this year’s Cinehill, held for the first time in magical Fužine.
At Golik Cinema at 11 a.m., start your day with a film that won everyone’s hearts and received the highest audience rating, Ivan Ramljak’s Peacemaker. On the eve of the Croatian-Serbian war, the documentary tells the story about the last few months of the life of Josip Reihl Kir, a man devoted to peaceful negotiations in an attempt to avoid the war, whose assassination remains an unsolved case to this day. Earlier this month, prior to its screening at Cinehill, Peacemaker was crowned with the Grand Golden Arena at the Pula Film Festival.
At the same time at Lič Cinema, we are screening a wonderful animated film about the touching friendship between a dog and his robot, Robot Dreams, by Spanish director Pablo Berger. Nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, Robot Dreams will offer a warm introduction to the magic of cinematic art for the kids, and take the adults on a nostalgic journey through colourful New York. Free admission.
At 5 p.m. at Golik Cinema, catch the Swiss film of the year, Queens (Reinas), directed by Klaudia Reynicka. While Peru is shaken by political turmoil in 1992, Lucía and Aurora prepare to emigrate to the United States with their mother. In order to travel, they need their father’s signature on the consent documents. Carlos, absent throughout their childhood, suddenly decides to fight to win back his two “queens”.
At 6 p.m. at Lič Cinema, we get the opportunity to see for ourselves the well-deserved Cinehill Propeller winner – Icelandic director Hlynur Pálmason’s outstanding feature The Love That Remains. Shot on 35 mm film and imbued with naturalist and surreal imagery and dark humour, the film captures a poetic and warm picture of a rural Iceland couple trying navigate the breakdown of their marriage while maintaining stability for the sake of the children. The film premiered at Cannes, where Panda, the dog, won the Palm Dog Award.
At 7 p.m. at Golik Cinema in Fužine (Dr. Franjo Rački 19), we’re screening the documentary feature that won second place according to popular vote, only 0.01 points shy of Peacemaker which ranked first based on votes of the audience.
