In the Israeli-occupied West Bank, twelve-year-old Khaled eagerly awaits a school trip when he will see the sea for the first time. When soldiers at a checkpoint separate him from his classmates and send him home, Khaled sets out alone on a perilous journey to the coast. His father Ribhi, an undocumented Palestinian worker, risks arrest in order to find him.
