On the third day of the festival, the energetic clown Palita Presepada warmed the hearts of the youngest audience members at the packed Cirkus Fellini. Palita was embodied by Michelle Cabral, a guest at the festival and actress in the Brazilian film Betânia, screening in our main program.
Palita on a Peace Mission is a really fitting title of her show, since her message of love and solidarity endeared everyone from the age of 3 to 83.
“But Mom, how will she disappear from the bag, where will she disappear to?” – asked a curious boy sitting on his mom’s knee, while his twin sister occupied the other knee. Luckily, Palita did not disappear but rose up from the sack as a super heroine, a super woman. She turned the world upside down, playing with stereotypes about women and reminding the audience that we have to work together for positive changes.
Palita’s energy was incredible, charming everyone inside the circus tent. She put smiles on the children’s faces, as if painting them with a brush. If the clown was looking for two volunteers, four of them would appear on stage!
“The antidote to all the evils in the world is love and compassion!” – Palita ended her performance to standing ovations.
