During July and August, there will be free screenings of five films at the locations where they were filmed.

This summer, as the city asphalt sizzles, refreshment arrives in the form of a unique cinematic experience. Cinehill Festival invites the people of Zagreb and all visitors to spend summer evenings enjoying free screenings of cult films at the locations where they were filmed. The program Zagreb – film city is accompanied by exciting themed tourist tours and other surprises. With Croatian and English subtitles, the films offer a unique opportunity for everyone to dive deeper into Zagreb as a mysterious and exciting film city.

The program starts on Tuesday, 8 July with the cult musical comedy One Song a Day Takes the Mischief Away (1970), which will be screened in the courtyard of the Zagreb City Museum. After the screening, the experience continues with socializing at the legendary inn “Pod starim krovovimaKod Žnidaršića.” For those eager for a deeper experience, a walking tour of the filming locations in the city center has been organized, along with drinks and prizes. The departure is from Zrinjevac Park at 19:00 h, and the number of places is limited; therefore, those interested are invited to contact the guiding collective EvenTura at the email eventurazagreb@gmail.com or on the Instagram profile eventura_zagreb. In case of rain, the screening will be moved to Wednesday, 9 July.

On Wednesday, 16 July, family adventure lovers can look forward to the most imaginative children’s film of recent Croatian production, My Grandpa Is an Alien (2019). The screening is set on the main stage in Maksimir Park, an ideal place to take a break from the summer hustle and bustle.

The program continues on Wednesday, 13 August with a masterpiece of European cinema, The Tin Drum (1979), winner of the Palme d’Or and an Oscar, whose screening will take place at Franjo Tuđman Square, in front of the Rudolf Barracks, the location where key scenes were filmed.

The next date to enjoy classic films is 20 August, with The Trial (1962) by Orson Welles, which transformed Zagreb into the backdrop of a dystopian European city. The screening will take place at the Gradec Plateau, overlooking the Cathedral, which was also part of the film’s set design. On the same day, a walking tour will be organized to the most attractive filming locations of world-famous movies, starting at 19:30 h at Ban Jelačić Square. The finale of the program, on the 26th. August brings the action spectacle Armour of God (1986) starring Jackie Chan in the lead role. The screening, in collaboration with the Confucius Institute, will take place at an authentic location – Dolac Market, known for the spectacular chase scene from the film.

All screenings start at 21:00 and are free of charge.

The program is supported by the City of Zagreb, the Zagreb Tourist Board, the Confucius Institute at the University of Zagreb, and the Zagreb City Museum, in collaboration with local tour guides and film professionals.
