Main award, Propeller of Motovun, goes to Scandinavian film A White, White Day by Hlynur Pálmason. • Film critics' FIPRESCI Award goes to God Exists, Her Name Is Petrunya

The main award, Propeller of Motovun, went to the Scandinavian film A White, White Day by Hlynur Pálmason. The film’s leading actor Ingvar Eggert Sigurðsson, who is the guest of the festival, will receive the award tonight. The jury explained their decision: “We gave the award to the film which, using genre elements, tackles the emotional and psychological burden of bereavement in an idiosynchratic way. This sweet-and-sour portrait of a peevish, melancholic policeman left a deep impression on us. Our decision was unanimous.“

The film critics’ FIPRESCI award went to the film God Exists, Her Name Is Petrunya. Their explanation:

“The leading actress captivated us with her excellent expressive acting. She easily convinced us that the main character is an intelligent woman with a complex personality, who discovers her own power during the film. She symbolizes the urge for freedom in many domains and indicates what needs to be changed. Excellently directed and edited, this dynamic black comedy drags the audience into its world.”
