On Wednesday, the music competition program “Mini-score” took place for the second year running. The program fosters the creative work of Croatian composers, and as many as 66 composers accepted the challenge participating in this year’s event. Last year the task was to write a score for a short documentary film, while this year’s brief required writing the music for an animated film in development.
“If you love both film and music, you’re in the right place”, said program host Morana Zibar at the start, emphasising the importance of music in cinema since its earliest days
“Last year we came up with the idea for Mini-score because we wanted to show filmmakers and producers in Croatia what we deeply believe – that there is an enormous wealth of musical talent in Croatia”, announced Milan Majerović-Stilinović, Head of Communications at the Copyright Protection Office of the Croatian Composers’ Society (HDS ZAMP).
The jury selected a total of 18 finalists among the 87 submitted scores which were submitted for blind review.
“We decided to be very strict, because last year’s submissions gave us every right to be – there are phenomenal talents. Today you will hear 4 of the 18 scores that received the maximum number of points from the jury”, said Majerović-Stilinović.
The audience had the opportunity to listen to the scores and rate them on a scale of 1 to 10. Renato Antić was voted as the winner, for his composition titled “Routine”, receiving the Cinehill Mini-score 2026 Award and a cash prize of €1,500.
