Every evening after the sun sets, we gather around the festival bonfire in Rakov Jarak. Every evening, the honorary role of lighting the bonfire will go to the person who in some way marked this or the previous festival day – legends of international cinema, our Maverick Award recipients, and friends of the festival. The bonfire becomes a place of meeting, conversation and ritual cleansing, with peppery hot drinks and inspiring guests. The first bonfire will be lit by the champion of the Yugoslav Black Wave, friend of the festival and previous Maverick Award winner, Želimir Žilnik. This year’s Maverick Award recipients, Catherine Breillat and Jafar Panahi, are up next during the festival, while the bonfire on the last evening will be lit by members of all festival juries – may it burn brightly next year too!
