Eurídice and Guida are two sisters forcibly separated in Rio de Janeiro in the 1950s, at a time when women in Brazil were still fighting for their basic rights. Eurídice lives for music and dreams of becoming a famous pianist, while Guida lives for passionate love and embarks on a path of personal liberation despite social restrictions. The result is an extremely innovative cinematic hybrid that is nothing like the usual autobiographical works. The film received the Un Certain Regard Award in Cannes, and it is based on the novel of the same name by writer Martha Batalha.
