Little Jonna has spent her whole life in an orphanage, dreaming about a mother who will love her and care for her. When an old car supposedly bringing her mother stops in front of the orphanage, Jonna is in for a big surprise. Out of the car steps a – gorilla! Jonna soon adapts to the situation and the two of them set up a blissful family life together. Everything is finally as it should be… until the local authorities threaten their idyll.

Linda Hambäck is a Swedish film director and producer. Her debut feature, Gordon & Paddy, premiered at Berlinale 2018. The Ape Star is her second feature. She was the producer of the animated parts of the Academy-Award-winning documentary Searching for Sugar Man, by Malik Bendjelloul.
