Milena (11), a lively Muslim Roma girl living in a poor village, tries to balance her school ambitions with the chaotic preparations for her sister Bogdana’s (16) wedding. While dreams of education clash with the pressures of tradition, Milena’s first period turns into a symbol of fear of a forced, premature marriage. Created in collaboration with members of the Roma community, who also appear in the film, it takes place during a pre-wedding dance in which Milena tries to oppose fate (kismet) imposed by custom.
