Former professional tennis player Tom now works as a coach at a summer resort in the Canary Islands, where he tries to drown his loneliness in alcohol and fleeting relationships. When Dave and Anne, a seemingly perfect British couple arrive at the resort with their son Anton, Tom feels an inexplicable connection, but also an instinctive distrust, especially after Dave suddenly disappears. With a subtle noir atmosphere under the Spanish sun, hints of a love triangle and disturbing ambiguity, Islands finds its bearings between Patricia Highsmith’s thrillers and Challengers. The film premiered at the Berlinale. Jan Ole Gerster’s Oh Boy screened at Motovun in 2018.
