TV director Dunja is editing a series about Štefica Cvek, an introverted and unassuming office clerk who lives in the world of cheap romance novels and women’s magazines and is looking for the right man. At the same time, Dunja is in a relationship with literary critic and party ideologue Sale, who, when need be, settles his scores with undesirable writers with political backlash – and things are looking pretty rocky. Dunja, like her on-screen heroine, finds herself searching for a suitable man. The iconic scenes in which Štefica meets her lovers are performed by co-stars Miki Manojlović, Bata Živojinović and Rada Šerbedžija. The film is an adaptation of the acclaimed novel Štefica Cvek in the Jaws of Life written by Dubravka Ugrešić, who also co-penned the script. The film was a favourite with the audience and critics alike. The film won numerous awards, including the Golden Arena for Director and Music at the Pula Film Festival.
