A genre-fluid lineup delivers five nights packed with fresh beats – from hip-hop to dance electronics • All performances at the enchanting forest venue nestled between two lakes – free of charge
Every evening, as the projectors at this year’s Cinehill in Fužine fade to black, the magic will continue under the open sky. The festival’s music program features five genre-diverse yet equally energy-charged evenings, weaving together cinematic narrative, uncompromising hip-hop, pure dance floor euphoria, and electronic avant-garde. This rich sonic tapestry will echo from the festival stage on the edge of the forest at Rakov Jarak, nestled between two lakes.
The program kicks off on Tuesday, 21 July, with Svebor Mihael Jelić, an artist that domestic audiences know as the director of hit feature films Zagreb Equinox and Trouble. Following his film directing studies in Vienna under Michael Haneke, Svebor temporarily substitutes his film reels for music tracks. His performance centres on on-the-spot music creation, showcasing a unique fusion of electric violin, live looping, drum’n’bass, and techno beats.
The party continues that same night with Felver, a favourite DJ and pioneering figure of the domestic electronic scene. Active for over 30 years, this veteran of the dancefloor effortlessly gets the crowds moving with rhythms ranging from ’80s synth and new wave to modern dark disco and new beat.
The second night, 22 July, belongs to the Split-born musical mastermind, winner of seven Porin Awards, and the first artist to sell out the Dom Sportova sports hall with his debut album. Vojko V arrives at Cinehill armed with an arsenal of anthemic hits that spark massive crowd sing-alongs, including Mamacita, Evo me opet, Moja lipa, and Saborska penzija. Razor-sharp satire, millions of YouTube views, and unstoppable energy promise an evening that will shake Rakov Jarak to its core.
Thursday brings a distinctive dose of nostalgia and humour with the Zagorje-based hip-hop duo Idu Hobiti. This creative duo builds its musical narrative by sampling forgotten and obscure ex-Yu tracks from the 1970s and 1980s. Their live set sounds like a song you cannot quite place, yet one that simultaneously makes you laugh and dance.
Friday evening transforms into an all-out dance frenzy orchestrated by theatre director and Croatia’s most celebrated party maestro, DJ Mario Kovač. His chaotic repertoire is a wonderfully surreal collision of styles, from guitar classics, punk and alternative, Studio 54 disco, nostalgic nineties Croatian dance, domestic new wave, and contemporary trap – all mashed to perfection.
The cherry on top of the festival’s final evening, 25 July, is provided by the electronic duo Cura i dečko, a couple united in real life by both romantic and creative chemistry. Utilising a hybrid of neo-rave, progressive house, and electro rhythms, Cura i dečko tell stories of love and human relationships, generating effortless joy that compels you to move.
Alongside these headliners, we’ve also lined up a string of DJs that will keep the crowds dancing, including one of the most exciting emerging collectives – the Rijeka-Delnice crew Greenlight. True to their name, the lads will seamlessly blend into the verdant surroundings of Gorski Kotar with a fresh run of electronic rhythms spanning from house to techno.
Admission to all music events at Cinehill is free of charge. The festival is co-organised with the Municipality of Fužine and supported by the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, the Kvarner Tourist Board, and the Croatian Audiovisual Centre.
