It is not every day that you can have your photograph taken with the world’s most famous film award statuette. But now Cinehill visitors can do just that – as Dušan Vukotić’s original 1962 Oscar has arrived at the festival thanks to a collaboration with Zagreb Film. The golden statuette quickly became one of the most popular guests of this year’s edition, as numerous visitors stopped to observe it and be reminded of the animated short The Substitute that earned Vukotić the historic award.
The story of the Oscar was also an opportunity for audiences to remember the man who won it. The Montenegrin focus program (Mountain to Mountain) featured the documentary Vud, You Won! by director Senad Šahmanović, weaving together intimate recollections from Vukotić’s wife, friends, and colleagues to tell the story of his remarkable journey – from global fame and great success to difficult times towards the end of his career.
The program dedicated to Dušan Vukotić opened with his Oscar-winning classic The Substitute, a film that left an indelible mark on the history of animation.
Vukotić’s Oscar will also be on display for visitors during the screenings of Visitors from the Arcana Galaxy and The Crystal Planet.
