Vermiglio is the story of a village teacher’s large family living in the isolated Italian mountain village of the same name at the end of World War II. The arrival of Sicilian deserter Pietro (Giuseppe De Domenico) and the strong bond he fosters with the teacher’s eldest daughter will change all the family members’ lives. In a paradoxical twist of fate, the family lose their peace just as the rest of the world is finally finding it. The intimate family drama and eye-catching Alpine landscapes create a stunning story of love, loss and resilience. Premiered in Venice in 2024, winning the Grand Jury Prize (Silver Lion), followed by the FIPRESCI Screenwriting Award in Palm Springs, and being selected as Italy’s 2025 Oscar contender.
