Val has been a live-in nanny and housekeeper in a well-off family in São Paulo for more than ten years. She has secured her financial stability but has had to leave her daughter in the care of relatives. To Fabinho, her employers’ only son, Val is like a second mother, while she hasn’t seen her daughter Jéssica in years. When Jéssica says she’s coming to São Paulo for her college entrance exam, with her employers’ approval, Val invites her to stay in her room. Jéssica’s arrival disturbs the long-established class differences and relations. The film premiered at Sundance where the lead actresses Casé and Márdila shared the Special Jury Award for Acting and won the Panorama Audience Award at Berlinale.
