23.7. TUESDAY 20:00 GOLUBINJAK
In April 1999, one of the most successful alpinists in the world, Tomaž Humar, decided to face the southern slope of the Himalayan peak Dhaulagiri. While organising the expedition, he ignored the rules and chose members who were not alpinists, but were, in his opinion, key to the success of the expedition. For the first time in the history of alpinism, viewers could follow the expedition online. After nine days of tackling the steep rock, the sun started turning the ice into avalanches, as Humar found himself just below the summit, on 2 November 1999. The weather conditions were getting worse, so he decided to turn back via the northern rock and return to the valley. The film won the Grand Prix at the Poprad International Festival of Mountain Films in Slovakia and in Graz the Alpine Camera in Gold for Best Mountaineering Film.
