Honoring our guestRuben Östlund, we will re-enact his artistic installationThe Squarein the town loggia tonight at 23:00. It is an artwork of his permanent collaboratorJosefin Äsberg,who will personally install it. As The Square is intended to test people's solidarity and mutual trust, it will be both a challenge and a social game for the festival visitors.
The Square is based on the eponymous artistic installation conceived and designed byÖstlundandKalle Boman,a Gothenburg professor. Originally, it was installed in the town ofVärnam in southern Sweden in 2015. It is a geometrical square in the town square, where everyone has equal rights and duties. It is intended to be a sanctuary, a place where we offer and seek help. Based on this installation,Östlund made a feature film addressing the above mentioned issues.
