Motovun Film Festival's 19th edition launches on Tuesday, 26 July at 21:00 with the screening of US director Sean Baker's comedy dramaTangerinein Cinema Trg. This multiawarded indie hit was entirely shot with a cell phone, leading the generation of films made by using new technologies. By sreening them, MFF is joining the new era.
Regardless of this year's ironical sloganIt was better last year, MFF has once again come up with a very impressive selection of the most important independent films from around the world, as well as from Croatia and its neighboring countries. Some one hundred films of various genres will be shown in several programs during five festival days.
The main program includes 21 films (with 13 of them competing forPropeller ofMotovun). Among them are those awarded at major film festivals such as Berlin (Fire atSea), Cannes (The Student) and Karlovy Vary (Nightlife) and new films by iconic filmmakers such as Alejandro Jodorowski (Endless Poetry) and Bruno Dumont (SlackBay).
As for the major regional players in the main program, we will have as our guests Mirjana Karanović with her directorial debutA Good Wife, Snježana Tribuson with her romantic comedyAll the Bestand Damjan Kozole with his thrillerNightlife.
Our Partner Country programLa bella Italiabegins with the screening of Francesco Munzio'sBlackSouls. The program has three segments: I grandi maestri (Great Masters), Il cinema del Mezzogiorno (Italian South) and Commedia all'italiana (Italian Comedy). In cooperation with Italian Cultural Institute, the program will present a selection of several decades of varied and diverse Italian cinema.
