Jan, a nurse and a father, relocates his family to Greenland, hoping to immerse himself in the local culture and escape his past. However, his quest to become a “Kalak”, or a “dirty Greenlander”, leads him down a path of self-destruction and moral ambiguity. The gripping drama, based on Kim Leine’s hit autobiographical novel on the struggles with the trauma of childhood sexual abuse, premiered at the San Sebastián International Film Festival and has been praised for its raw and evocative storytelling.
