The second day of the festival is again packed with loads of diverse events! For those who like to wake up while watching a good film, the day-time film program starts at noon at Cinema Bauer, with a screening of Italian drama Dogman directed by Matteo Garrone. The story centres on the owner of a dog-grooming salon Marcello, who embarks on a revenge campaign to restore the dignity lost by violent boxer Simone’s eternal terrorizing. The film is screening in the program Lost&Found , dedicated to the ‘films that got away’ which Motovun festivals selectors wanted to include in the program but circumstances had other plans. This is a chance for some of the lost films to finally find their way to the Motovun audience. You will also have the opportunity to see the Italian short From Our Side directed by Simone Massi narrated by none other than Wim Wenders.

At 2 p.m. at Cinema Bauer, we march on with a block of films in the Cinehill Shorts competition. These will include Croatian documentary Espi directed by Ivan Grgur, which explores the transgender experience and all the changes this entails. The second block of short films in competition is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the same venue.

We all love to quote our favourite movies, but well do we actually know them? Test out your knowledge in the Garden, at 3 p.m., in a film trivia quiz Are You Talking to Me? hosted by famous knowledge hunter Morana Zibar.

If you are still mulling over the screening of Fallen Leaves from the previous night, directed by Finnish master of the absurd Aki Kaurismäki, you can find out more about his latest film (and everything else) in conversation with actor Jussi Vatanen in the Garden at 5 p.m.

A lot can be caid in one minute. At 6 p.m. Cinema Bauer offers a selection of the best films from the Croatian One-Minute Film Festival, followed by a screening of Blanquita by Chilean director Fernando Guzzoni in the main program. The film is inspired by real-life events and follows Blanca, the main witness in a child prostitution scandal involving the Chilean elite. But the more questions are raised, the less clear her role in the scandal becomes.

The glamorous crime drama Medusa Deluxe directed by Brit Thomas Hardman is screening on the main Motovun square at 9 p.m. Passions, ambitions and envy intertwine at a luxury hairstyling competition, a sudden death of one of their own leading to divisions among the stylists. The film premiered at Locarno and competed in London, Rotterdam and many other festivals.

Cinema Billy at 9:15 p.m. offers a treat in the form of Tartufi Times , Lutz Siegert’s short filmed right here in Motovun! After the tasting of celluloid truffles, we present Hotel Pula , the feature debut of Croatian director and former Motovun Shorts selector, Andrej Korovljev. Hotel Pula centres on a Bosnian immigrant Mahir, who manages a hotel in Pula, in which he also lives. An encounter with Una, a young girl from Pula will awaken new hope in him.

At Hotel Roxanich at 9:30 p.m., we present animated heavyweight Loving Vincent directed by creative duo Dorota Kobiela and Hugh Welchman, another jewel in the program Lost&Found. Entirely painted in van Gogh’s technique, the film follows the life and death of the famous painter through as many as 800 of his letters. The film was nominated for the Golden Globe, Oscar and BAFTA.

The screening of Dudes: Again! is scheduled for 10:30 p.m. at the Cinema Square. The sequel to the regional hit Dudes takes place 21 years after the original. Pop and Mare are still where we left them, as the world moves on without them. On the other hand, Gojko has become a well-known music producer in Vienna, where he is also organising their high school reunion. Pop and Mare snap out of their drab daily life and head out on an odyssey towards Austria in order to fulfil the life goals they left behind.

If you missed the short film program at 2 p.m., you can still catch Ivan Grgur’s documentary Espi at Cinema Billy at 11:30 p.m., followed by Romanian director Radu Jude’s Balkan anti-western Aferim!. Constable Costandin and his son look for a runaway slave who allegedly had an affair with his owner’s wife. Along the way, they meet people of different nations and religions. The film was awarded the Silver Bear at Berlinale.

The program ends at 1:00 a.m. with a party directed by famous director Dalibor Matanić and Croatia’s most awarded film editor Tomislav Pavlic acting as DJ’s for the occasion.
