Honoring Agnieszka Holland this year’s laureate of Motovun Maverick Award, we’ll be showing two of her films – Provincial Actors and the latest one, Spoor. Early in her career, this famous Polish filmmaker belonged to the so-called “cinema of moral concern” and dealt with everyday topics and political issues. In the past years she has successfully directed TV series.
As a visiting director at large production companies like HBO and Netflix, she directed episodes of the most popular series of the decade, like Wire and House of Cards. Together with David Simon, the creator of Wire, in 2010 she launched the awarded US series Treme. The series was named after a New Orleans district where it takes place. Three months after the hurricane Katrina, the locals (including musicians, cooks, Mardi Gras Indians and ordinary citizens) are trying to get back on the tracks, rebuild their homes and restore the tradition in the devastated city.
The series’ pilot episode, Do You Know What It Means, directed by Agnieszka Holland, can be seen in Cinema Bauer on the fourth day of the festival, 27 July, at 14:00. Admission is free!
